There is, in Nyagatare District, an important number of vulnerable people. This vulnerability is due to many causes
whose the main ones are the civil war and the genocide of 1994 as well as diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS. Out of
53.087 , the total number of vulnerable people, a number of 1.680 households ( that is more or less 10.080 people)
without a shelter, 301 Child headed Households, 4.019 genocide survivors and 2460 history alienated. On top of this
number comes 1.120 people who were recently repatriated from Tanzania who live without shelter.
